Twitter Will Allow Taliban to Use Platform

Twitter won’t ban the Taliban’s spokesperson from its platform.

A Twitter spokesman, after being asked if the company would join other social media companies in prohibiting the terrorist group from using its website, stated that it would “continue to proactively enforce” its rules on the “glorification of violence, platform manipulation and spam,” according to Mediate. According to the statement, Twitter “witnesses people in the country using Twitter for help and assistance.”

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, is active on Twitter and has around 200,000 followers. Others from the terrorist group, such as Muhammad Ibrahim, are also using Twitter to spread their message.

Ibrahim used his Twitter account as a way to help someone join the Taliban. He responded to a tweet from a 26-year old Bangladeshi man asking for advice.

Twitter also stated that its “top priority is keeping people safe, and we remain vigilant.”
