Greta Thunberg, a teen climate activist, chastised President Joe Biden for failing to lead on climate change and investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure in his first year in office.
The Swedish adolescent never went into detail on how Biden has enhanced the United States’ fossil fuel infrastructure in the previous year. In November, his administration oversaw the biggest oil lease sale in US history, auctioning off more than 80 million acres of Gulf of Mexico drilling acreage.
Democrats and environmental organizations have slammed the Biden administration’s decision to proceed with the transaction. However, the Department of the Interior said that a previous federal court order had limited its options.
Raul Grijalva, the chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, said it was a step in the wrong direction and that the administration needed to do better.
The president, on the other hand, has undertaken an aggressive climate strategy, which includes denying the Keystone XL pipeline permission, allowing for comprehensive regulation of fossil fuel firms, and prohibiting new oil and gas leasing on federal lands. Several solar and wind projects around the nation were also approved and sponsored by his government.
Thunberg also chastised the UN for failing to reach a substantial agreement during the COP26 climate meeting in Scotland in November, according to the interview released Monday. She joined scores of others at the meeting in criticizing the discussions for not being bold sufficiently.
