Police in Daytona Beach, Florida, have arrested a guy accused of committing a heinous attack on a complete stranger in a Waffle House last week, allegedly hacking her with a machete multiple times.
Pierre Kendrick, 34, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the savage assault, which was captured on security tape at the eatery.
According to an incident report filed by police, Kendrick allegedly entered the restaurant on Seabreeze Boulevard at 4 a.m. on Feb. 24 and approached the woman who was sitting in a booth.
According to police, surveillance video shows Kendrick conversing with the woman in a booth before getting up to converse with others at the restaurant.
Kendrick then returned to the woman’s booth, drew a machete from his jeans pocket, and assaulted her without warning. He allegedly struck the woman with the weapon several times.
The woman was allegedly screaming and the defendant was slicing the victim with a machete, according to a witness at the restaurant.
The woman is said to have gotten out of the situation by hopping over the counter and fled out the back door. She immediately dashed to a hotel, where she called the cops and informed them that she had been stabbed by someone she didn’t know.
After that, the woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries. Kendrick departed the scene in a red SUV that was newer in model.
Daytona Beach police published portions from the restaurant’s security camera showing Kendrick entering the restaurant and interacting with guests in an attempt to elicit community assistance in identifying him. The attack’s full video has yet to be released.
Kendrick was allegedly detained and brought into custody on Sunday, and he appeared in court for the first time on Monday. A judge set his bond at $75,000 and ordered that he not contact the victim in court.
