Sarah Palin Announces Run for Congress

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate, declared her candidacy for Congress on Friday.

Palin announced her candidacy for the special election to replace late Republican Congressman Don Young, who died in mid-March after nearly 50 years in Congress, in a statement on Facebook.

“Today I’m announcing my candidacy for the U.S. House seat representing Alaska. Public service is a calling, and I would be honored to represent the men and women of Alaska in Congress, just as Rep. Young did for 49 years. I realize that I have very big shoes to fill, and I plan to honor Rep. Young’s legacy by offering myself up in the name of service to the state he loved and fought for, because I share that passion for Alaska and the United States of America,” Palin said in her post.

Palin went on to say that America is at a crossroads, and that she has seen the far left ruin the country.

Palin’s website has been updated to include a link to a WinRed fundraising page for her congressional campaign.

Palin joins a crowded field of more than 40 candidates who filed by the deadline on Friday for the June 11th primary election.

The primary election results will be released on June 26, and the top four finishers will advance to a special election on August 16, where the victor will be determined through ranked-choice voting.

Palin was the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska from 1996 to 2002 before joining the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission as head in 2003.

Palin was elected as Alaska’s ninth governor as a Republican in 2006, and served as presidential contender John McCain’s running mate in his unsuccessful 2008 campaign.
