Elisyannah Valdez, 13, has been the target of social media abuse by another 13-year-old girl for about a year and a half.
“She called me ugly, fat, she talked about my grandma, said my grandma’s burning in hell and ‘F my dead grandma,’” Elisyannah stated.
Cassandra Cisneros advised her daughter to disregard the situation. “You’re going to have haters. She’s envious, you know, so block her or make a new account,” she recalls adding.
Elisyannah did, but she claims the girl would track her down on the internet and continue to torture her. Still, nothing could have prepared her for the events of April 26, 2021. The family had gone to Inglewood’s Center Park for a day of fun when the girl who had been tormenting Elisyannah suddenly appeared in front of her, ready to fight.
She was stabbed three times and had her left arm cut once. Her liver, kidneys, diaphragm, and pericardial sac were all penetrated by the knife.
Internal hemorrhage resulted from the injuries. Doctors had to operate on Elisyannah right away since she felt she was going to die. What stung the most, she adds, was not being able to see her family again and not being able to see another day.
One misdemeanor case of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of cyber harassment against a juvenile were filed against the attacker. “We filed appropriate charges on this case given George Gascón’s new emphasis on restorative justice as driven by science and facts,” the prosecutor said in an email to Cisneros. Elisyannah’s assailant was sentenced to probation in the end.
Because of a boy, the girl had so much animosity for Elisyannah.
The assailant became obsessed with Elisyannah because she believed she was dating the boy across the street, which was inaccurate because they were simply good friends.
Following the stabbing, the girl used music to send a message to the boy at the core of the quarrel. “Would you love me more, if I killed someone for you?” it asks.
