A university student in Nigeria died on Friday while taking part in a crucifixion reenactment.
According to sources, Sule Ambrose, 25, was a first-year student at the Claratian Institute of Philosophy studying to become a priest when the tragic episode occurred.
During the play “Passion of Christ,” a public crucifixion, death, and resurrection reenactment of Christ’s crucifixion, death, and resurrection. Ambrose was cast in the role of Simon Peter, a disciple of Jesus, in a portrayal of Jesus’ crucifixion.
Ambrose fainted during his performance in the play and was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to accounts, when Ambrose fainted, others at the institution assumed he was joking and that it was all part of the theater.
“At first, we thought it was a joke and that it was all part of the drama,” the source explained. “But when he couldn’t get up, we realized it was a serious situation and he was immediately transported to the hospital.”
Ambrose collapsed while portraying a Gospels scenario in which Peter cuts off a servant’s ear, which is afterwards healed by Jesus, according to a fellow student identified as Mavis.
Father Chukwuemeka Iheme, a spokesman of the Claretian Institute, later confirmed Ambrose’s identity and death but declined to speak further on the incident. Following that, all Easter festivities at the Institute were halted. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined.
