Taiwan Warns China It Has A Missile Capable Of Striking Beijing

Taiwanese officials are strongly urging China to reconsider bombing the island country, stating that Taiwan possesses missiles capable of striking Beijing.

You Si Kun, President of Taiwan’s Legislative Assembly, indicated in a recent interview with Taiwanese media that if China invaded, his nation would not hesitate to use its Yun Feng supersonic cruise missiles.

You stated that Yung Fend missiles can already target Beijing and that Taiwan has the capability to attack Beijing.

In recent years, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense has dedicated more cash to improving the capability of Yung Feng missiles to strike farther into China. Its newest iteration is said to have a range of 1,200 miles, which means it could theoretically hit Beijing, which is around 1,150 miles away from Taiwan.

You Si Kun alluded to Russia’s continuing invasion of Ukraine, saying that the resolve to fight outweighs any missile capability.

Taiwan and China separated in 1949 after a civil war, but China claims the island as its own and has not ruled out using military force to reclaim Taiwan’s territory.

In recent years, China has increased its military provocations against democratic Taiwan in an attempt to intimidate it into adopting Beijing’s demands for unification with the communist mainland.

The Taiwan Ties Act of 1979, which governs US-Taiwan relations, does not obligate the US to intervene militarily if China invades, but it does make it American policy to guarantee Taiwan has the resources to defend itself and to prevent Beijing from unilaterally changing its status.
