When President Biden brought up the 2018 murder of US-based writer Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi security personnel, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman responded that he was not personally to blame. They met on Friday.
Following conversations with the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Claimed and the crown prince, Biden said he discussed human rights problems, including the killing of Khashoggi, during a news conference.
Khashoggi, a Washington Post writer, was assassinated by Saudi security personnel in 2018, although MBS had been suspected of being involved.
Biden continued by saying that he considered dealing with any opposition to the criticism of the Saudi government in other nations to be a violation of human rights.
Due to the kingdom’s abuse of human rights, violations of international law, and overt animosity against the US, including the murder of Khashoggi, Biden pledged to make the country a pariah at a Democratic presidential primary discussion in 2019.
Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, the widow of Khashoggi, met with White House representatives last week.
The president was questioned about how he can ensure that another murder like Khashoggi’s does not occur after being lambasted on Friday for offering MBS a fist bump when they arrived at the Al Salam Royal Palace.
The president emphasized that he had just made it plain that there would be consequences and much more if something like happened again.
Prior to Biden’s meetings on Friday, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated that the president will talk publicly about the subject of human rights throughout the trip and would discuss key problems pertaining to Saudi Arabia human rights.
