Border Patrol Agents Found A Group Of Migrants Packed In A Dump Trailer

Carrizo Springs Station officers detected a human smuggling event on June 6, according to Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens. Agents discovered one of the migrants had perished in a dump trailer full of migrants.

Carrizo Springs Border Patrol agents discovered the trailer on a lonely road south of Catarina, Texas, some 60 miles north of Laredo, according to Del Rio Sector Border Patrol officials.

A number of individuals sat and stood to the side of the truck in one shot, while a man lay inside the trailer with many border officers administering first aid in the other.

Smugglers crammed more than 60 migrants inside the belly dump trailer, according to Chief Owens.

“We often talk about the dangers associated w/ tactics employed by criminal smugglers who have no regard for human life.” In the tweet, Owens added, “Unfortunately, this is stark proof of that fact.”

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office, ICE Homeland Security Investigations, and CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility will investigate the fatality and related human smuggling event, according to Border Patrol authorities.

Officials did not say whether a human smuggler was discovered and apprehended in connection with the migrant’s death. The identity and country of the migrant were not revealed.

Although the reason for the migrant’s death is still being investigated, it is thought that the severe heat had a role. This week, temperatures in southwest Texas have surpassed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Del Rio Sector Border Patrol also stated that 2,448 unauthorized migrants were apprehended in the region during the weekend, including 28 rescues.
