FBI Director Reveals Chinese Spying Plot On US Soil

On February 1, FBI Director Chris Wray met with NBC News host Pete Williams for an interview to discuss his agency’s efforts to end China’s surveillance. Wray struck a significant bombshell early in the interview when he confessed that the FBI opens an average of two counterintelligence investigations involving Chinese espionage on US soil every day, bringing the total number of current investigations to over 2,000.

The sheer magnitude of the problem, according to Wray, blew him away. Wray added that he’s not the type of guy who uses terms like blown away to emphasize the gravity of the situation.

In context, Wray argued that no other country poses a greater and more serious danger to American innovation and economic security than China.

Later that day, at a lecture at the Ronald Reagan Library, Wray elaborated on Chinese surveillance operations. He told the audience that China’s counterintelligence measures were more blatant and harmful than at any other time in history.
