Pelosi’s Staff are Fleeing Thanks to Rumors of Her Exit

Jorge Aguilar, the executive director of Nancy Pelosi for Congress, is the latest individual to depart Pelosi’s side after nearly a decade with her. According to Punchbowl News, Aguilar will join theGroup, a strategy and communications business, to help clients on navigating the nuances of the Democratic Caucus and stakeholder organizations.

Pelosi’s choice might be hinted at by Aguilar’s departure. When veteran aides and staff leave an elected officeholder, it’s usually a hint that the member is about to retire. Not only has Aguilar been with Pelosi for over a decade, but he also served as the executive director of her reelection campaign.

Furthermore, according to Politico Playbook, while Pelosi and her staff have not verified any of the stories about her possible resignation from Congress, the turnover rate in her office surged last year. Pelosi’s office has witnessed a large outflow in the last year as speculation grows that she may quit Congress at the end of this term.

Staff were forced to depart due to the coronavirus outbreak and the January 6 event last year. Pelosi’s office, however, had roughly twice as many exits as the rest of the building.

So far, 24 House Democrats have stated their intention to leave the chamber at the end of their current mandates, whether to retire from public life or seek another post.
