In the Del Rio Sector, life-saving rescues of migrants are frequent throughout the hot summer months. Agents late last week prevented the death of another immigrant who was from heat exhaustion on a property close to Brackettville, Texas.
The agents started administering emergency cooling techniques and gave the migrant IV fluids to rehydrate him. The nationality of the immigrant was not disclosed by Chief Owens.
When an EMS team came, they took the migrant to a hospital for assessment and care.
This week, Owens tweeted a warning to migrants about the risks of being smuggled into the overworked Border Patrol sector during the hottest part of the summer in West Texas.
According to a US Customs and Border Protection report, from October 1, 2021, to May 31, 2022, Border Patrol agents saved a record-breaking 14,278 migrants. The number of rescues far outnumbers the 12,833 migrant rescues that were performed in FY21. There are still four months in the current fiscal year.
