TSA Officer Saves Infant Who Stopped Breathing at Airport

According to recently released footage, a security officer leapt over conveyor belt rollers and saved a 2-month-old kid who had stopped breathing at a security checkpoint at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

The film was shared by the US government on Thursday. On Dec. 9, after his mother took him up from a vehicle carrier and saw he wasn’t breathing, TSA officer Cecilia Morales sprung into action to revive the boy.

Morales, an EMT who has worked for the TSA for roughly two months, told the agency that she did the infant Heimlich technique by laying the baby face down on her arm and stroking him on the back to get him breathing again.

She stated it was the first time she had used the method on a newborn. A pediatric EMT came a short time later to administer oxygen to the infant. According to a TSA representative, the agency is unsure what caused the infant to cease breathing.

“I saw the video afterward. It was the first time I’ve ever seen myself in action, saving a life. It was mind-blowing to watch. I felt that my training and experience just took over.” Morales stated in an interview.

“Two months on the job and she’s literally a life-saver. Officer Morales’s quick reaction and actions helped ensure that this family will have a happy holiday season. Her actions were inspiring.” Thomas Carter, the TSA’s Federal Security Director for New Jersey was all praises to Morales in a statement.
