According to a recent account, a woman from West Virginia who had been in a coma for two years later recognized her brother as the assailant who had knocked her out.
In June 2020, Wanda Palmer had been brutally attacked with a knife or hatchet at her Cottageville house.
Detectives were astonished to hear from Palmer’s care facility last week that the victim had regained consciousness since they had been unable to identify her attacker.
“We had a little bit of an idea what happened, but the problem was with the nuts and bolts of the case we had nothing to go on. There were no eyewitnesses, nobody lived in the home, no surveillance footage, no cellphone records. There was virtually nothing there to move forward on,” Mellenger stated.
The report stated that despite having serious brain injury, Palmer was nevertheless able to speak with authorities and identified her brother as the person who knocked her out.
“The keys to the whole thing lay with the victim herself and with her unable to communicate we were left with nothing. Now lo and behold two years later and boom, she’s awake and able to tell us exactly what happened,” Mellenger added.
According to reports, Daniel Palmer was detained for attempted murder and intentional injury.
