American Journalist Shot Dead By Russian Troops In Ukraine

According to the regional police chief, an award-winning journalist and former New York Times contributor was assassinated by Russian forces near Kyiv on Sunday.

According to authorities and a witness, Brent Renaud, 51, a video journalist who has worked for NBC, Vice News, and HBO, was tragically shot in the neck when Russian troops opened fire on a car at the Romanivsky Bridge in the Ukrainian town of Irpin.

A video showing a police officer on the site with a bloodied man’s body was also uploaded by Nebitov.

Renaud was attacked while working on a Times Studios project about refugees.

According to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Russia will bear appropriate repercussions for Renaud’s killing.

According to Nebitov, two other journalists were hurt in the incident and rushed to the hospital.

US photojournalist Juan Arredondo, who has worked for the New York Times and National Geographic, was among the injured journalists.

According to Arrendondo, the attackers shot Renaud, and he was forced to flee in an ambulance without his companion. Renaud’s body was found on the side of the road under a blanket, according to PBS correspondent Jane Ferguson.

The attack came after Russian forces shelled Irpin heavily.

Reanud’s death was announced by the New York Times on Sunday.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Brent Renaud’s death. Brent was a talented filmmaker who had contributed to The New York Times over the years,”  a New York Times representative said.

Though he was initially described as a New York Times journalist, the spokesman stated that he was not on duty for the newspaper at the time of his death.

According to their website, Renaud previously received a Peabody Award for his collaboration with his brother, Craig, on a Vice News documentary on a Chicago school. The Renaud Brothers had worked on documentary projects in Iran, Afghanistan, Haiti, Egypt, Libya, and Mosul for their company.
