After numerous postal carriers were assaulted in the last several months, the US Postal Operations discontinued delivery service in the Santa Monica area.

According to the US Postal Service, three distinct postal carriers were involved in separate incidents along a stretch of 14th Street near Santa Monica Boulevard.

Residents were alerted of the mail halt via a letter delivered to their mailboxes on April 7.

“While this is disappointing, please be aware that the Postal Service does not make service suspension decisions lightly. In the letter, Santa Monica Postmaster Marjorie Watson stated that “several carriers have been exposed to attacks and threats of assault by an individual who has not been discovered or captured.”

A guy reportedly struck a mail carrier with a broomstick in the neighborhood on January 19, according to Santa Monica police. Sgt. Erika Aklufi said the man, who lives on the street, was not arrested because the postal carrier declined to file charges

According to Aklufi, the postal carrier had a minor arm injury that did not require medical care.

The US Postal Inspection Service is looking into all three occurrences, according to Garvins, but Santa Monica police authorities said they haven’t been informed about the other attacks.

Because of the continuing investigation, officials with the US Postal Inspection Service stated they are unable to speak further at this time.

Residents in the region will have to pick up their mail at a USPS office on 7th Street in Santa Monica in the interim.
