UN Chief Issues Dire Warning

On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a dire warning about the threat of nuclear war.

At the Tenth Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York City, Guterres spoke about the risks of nuclear conflict. Around 191 nations that signed the 1970 nuclear non-proliferation pact attended the summit.

“Today, humanity is just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation,” according to Guterres.

Guterres urged the world to aggressively pursue the objective of eradicating all nuclear weapons since doing so is the only way to ensure they will never be used.

In addition, he cited upheaval on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East as well as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as evidence that the world is currently witnessing nuclear risk at a level that has not been witnessed since the height of the Cold War.

Despite warnings from Taiwan, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi apparently still intends to travel there. When Pelosi entered Taiwan, the People’s Liberation Army declared on Monday that they wouldn’t stand by and do nothing.

As the conflict between the two nations rages on, Russia is attacking Ukrainian ports, threatening attempts to reduce the worldwide food shortfall. Before the Rozini, a ship whose departure marked the end of a five-month food blockade, left sail, Russia bombarded the port.

Kim Jong-Un, the leader of North Korea, has said that he is completely ready to deploy nuclear weapons in the event of a fight.

According to a Senate study, there are still up to 9,000 Americans living in Afghanistan after the US withdrew its soldiers from the nation in August.
