The consequences of inept leadership are being felt in Eastern Europe, as Russia launches an offensive on Ukraine that threatens to destabilize decades of American global supremacy.
As fears grow of a possibly catastrophic confrontation involving the United States, many are doubting President Joe Biden’s competence to lead the free world.
The right has claimed that Biden encouraged the strike by displaying weakness to Vladimir Putin, who began an offensive early Thursday morning that he claimed would demilitarize Russia’s border. Explosions were reported around Ukraine, including in Kyiv, the capital.
As the invasion proceeded, former President Donald Trump informed Laura Ingraham that Biden was most likely sleeping, prompting others to wonder why Biden had not yet made a public appearance to react on the alarming news. Trump also reiterated his contention that the incident would not have happened if he had been president.
Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), Trump’s former White House doctor, echoed Trump’s remarks, calling on Biden to undergo a cognitive test. Biden, Jackson said, is a terrible symbol of American power, and he warned that by dragging the US into a conflict, he will kill more Americans.
A battle with Russia, one of just a few nuclear-armed countries other than the United States, would be disastrous. To his credit, Biden has stated that he has no plans to send American soldiers to Ukraine, and the majority of Americans condemn the United States interfering in Ukraine’s matters.
However, Biden has cautioned that as a result of his administration’s sanctions against Russia, Americans can expect to spend more for fuel. When he finally emerged Thursday afternoon for a statement denouncing Putin, he announced more sanctions.
Putin has not been swayed by Biden’s pro-democracy rhetoric. Threats of penalties from Biden and other decadent, frivolous Western politicians haven’t worked either.
