CA Parks Requires Indoor Masking For Sports Despite Sweltering Heat Wave

Los Angeles frequently sets the standard for unsafe and absurd laws, and despite the city being experiencing a record heat wave, the Department of Recreation and Parks is still mandating children to wear masks inside all of its facilities. On so many ways, playing basketball when covered in perspiration and unable to breathe is probably healthy.

The Park Department’s website has a large-font, all-caps list of its criteria.

CURRENT LA CITY GUIDELINES AND THE MOST RECENT CITY HEALTH MANDATE REQUIRES MASKING AT ALL INDOOR FACILITIES AND REQUIRES THE CITY TO CHECK PROOF OF VACCINATION AS A CONDITION OF ENTRY.

ALTHOUGH THE LA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH NOW ALLOWS BUSINESSES TO REMOVE INDOOR MASK MANDATES AND MODIFY THEIR PROOF OF VACCINATION STATUS REQUIREMENTS BASED ON THEIR BUSINESS NEEDS, THE CITY’S HEALTH ORDER DOES NOT YET CONFORM TO THAT GUIDANCE AND THE CURRENT REQUIREMENTS REMAIN UNCHANGED.

Masks don’t even significantly slow down the transmission of COVID, according to several doctors and scientists. Back in February, a group of doctors from UCLA and USC sent a letter to the LA Board of Supervisors.

These results demonstrate that illnesses increased even after the mask mandate was implemented, indicating low or no effectiveness of the mandate.

They were using statistics that indicated COVID instances continued to rise through December 2021, following Los Angeles’ imposition of a mask mandate in June. If you don’t need them in schools, you definitely don’t need them when you’re shooting hoops, according to one of the doctors, Jeffrey D. Klausner, who is also against requiring kids to wear masks in class. He claims that 70% or more of kids in class have either been infected or have received vaccinations, or both, giving them immunity from serious illness.

It doesn’t take a scientist to realize that wearing a mask while exercising in the heat is uncomfortable and makes breathing more challenging.

Since April, a lot has changed, so this antiquated document shouldn’t be serving as a road map as Labor Day approaches.

Parents on Twitter were understandably furious.
