Fox News Reporter Lost Part of His Leg in Ukraine Attack

Following an attack in Ukraine that killed his cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and one other journalist, Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall lost part of his leg.

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense shared the sobering new information about Mr Hall’s injuries on Twitter, writing: “The truth is the goal.” Near Kyiv, Russian forces opened fire on a Fox News camera crew. Pierre Zakrevsky, a cameraman, and Oleksandra Kurshynova, a producer, were killed. Journalist Benjamin Hall was saved, but he lost a limb.”

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott stated in a statement released Tuesday morning, “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news this morning regarding our beloved cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski. Pierre was killed in Horenka, outside of Kyiv, Ukraine. Pierre was with Benjamin Hall newsgathering when their vehicle was struck by incoming fire.”

Mr Hall, a British-American journalist acting as the network’s State Department correspondent who has previously written for The Independent, was hospitalized on Monday, according to Ms Scott, who did not provide any specifics about the degree of his injuries in a note to workers.

During his long career with FOX News, Pierre was a war photographer who covered practically every worldwide story from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria. As a journalist, his enthusiasm and talent were unrivaled. Pierre, who was based in London, has been working in Ukraine since February. His abilities were quick, and there was no function in the field that he didn’t step into to assist with – from photographer to engineer to editor to producer – and he did it all under extreme pressure and with great expertise.

Mr. Hall and Mr. Zakrzewski were assassinated just one day after American journalist Brett Renaud was shot and murdered by Russian soldiers in Irpin while working for TIME magazine.

According to Ukrainian sources, Mr Renaud was in a car on his way to report on Ukrainian refugees attempting to flee when it was ambushed by Vladimir Putin’s army. Another American journalist was hurt and rushed to the hospital.
