In a Thursday interview, Donald Trump denied that Melania Trump, his ex-wife, would not want to return to the White House if he wins the presidency in 2024. He described the claims as “more fake information” and called them “more fake news”.
Brian Kilmeade of Fox & Friends asked, “Is it true?” “Is Melania Trump, the ex-first lady, told you that she would not return if you ran again.”
“No, that’s not true. That’s an interesting one. More fake news,” Trump chuckled in response, before repeating: “No, that’s not true.”
“She was a great first lady, she did a great job. She loves the people, they love her, I see how they love her,” the 45th president added. “But no, I will say this: We have to fix our country. Our country is going bad. We’re not going to have a country if we keep doing this.”
Although Melania has not officially announced her second bid for the Oval Office, there were reports in September that she wanted to keep out of the public eye.
One person who was aware of the disinterest expressed by the former first lady told CNN that he wasn’t going to see her at rallies and campaign events even though he claims he’s running again.
“Instead it’s going to be [Trump daughter-in-law] Lara or [Kimberly] Guilfoyle [the girlfriend of Trump’s eldest son, Don Jr.],” the source added. “They have that same urge Trump has to [run] again; Melania absolutely does not.”
Another person described as having a close relationship with Melania during her days in the White House added to CNN: “Being the first lady again is not what she wants … For her, it was a chapter — and it’s over, and that’s that.”
However, a close friend of Trump said to Politico Melania would support her husband regardless.
“If [Trump] runs, she will be right there. She’s not going to have her own rallies,” the person said. “But did she ever?”
Trump will likely announce his intentions to run for the presidency again following next year’s midterm elections.
On Thursday, Kilmeade asked Trump: “Do you think you’re the only one to bring it [America] back, as the 47th president?”
“Well, if you look at the poll numbers, I am, because the poll numbers are 95 percent to 96 percent approval rating now in the Republican Party,” Trump claimed. “Nobody’s ever had that, and overall approval numbers are great.”
“I’m not going by-polls, I’m just saying, I did it before and really did it twice,” the former president added. “I did it — we had it at a level that has never been seen before, and then we brought it back to a level that was really good, despite the China virus, and other countries, not one country has fared as well as we had. Not one country. So, you know, we did a good job.”
