At the Tenth Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York City, Guterres spoke about the risks of nuclear conflict. Around 191 nations that signed the 1970 nuclear non-proliferation pact attended the summit.
“Today, humanity is just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation,” according to Guterres.
Guterres urged the world to aggressively pursue the objective of eradicating all nuclear weapons since doing so is the only way to ensure they will never be used.
