House Financial Services Committee Chairman Maxine Waters D-Calif. has paid her daughter tens to thousands more in campaign funds this past year.
We have reviewed campaign finance records and found that Karen Waters, the congresswoman, received $74,000 in donations from her campaign through September.
Over $20,000 went to the Waters in the last quarter, nearly a third off the average American household income for 2020, according to the Census Bureau.
Waters’ campaign did not immediately respond to our request for comment on the payments to her daughter.
Waters’ daughter has been awarded over $1.1 million since 2003 for her efforts in promoting her mother’s campaigns.
In fact, $250,000 was funneled to the daughter of the Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee in the 2020 election cycle.
To support her mother’s reelection, the daughter of the California Democrat set up slate-mailing operations.
Slate-mailing, a uncommon practice in federal elections is where a consulting company is hired to create a pamphlet that includes a list or policy measures and tells voters how to vote.
Rep. Waters was reportedly the only federal politician to use a slate-mailer operation during the 2020 general election.
Karen Waters isn’t the only family member to make a fortune in Rep. Waters’ career has changed over the years.
The Los Angeles Times reported in 2004 that Waters had given over $1 million to family members during the preceding eight years.
