Over the weekend, Washington state firefighters rescued a lady who had fallen into an outhouse vault toilet in a national forest near Seattle.
Authorities have not recognized the lady who went into the toilet while attempting to collect her phone, which had fallen in. She was in Quilcene, at the summit of Mount Walker in the Olympic National Forest. A vault toilet, also known as a pit toilet, is a type of toilet that is installed in permanent constructions and does not flush or require water.
Chief Tim Manly of the Brinnon Fire Department said the lady dismantled the toilet before tying herself down in the cubicle with dog collars as she groped for the phone. She plunged headlong into the toilet when that effort failed.
The woman was alone and attempted for 10-15 minutes to break out of the vault but was unsuccessful. She did, however, acquire what she came in for: her phone, which fortunately had mobile service. So she dialed 911 for assistance.
Before lifting her out of the toilet, firefighters handed her bricks to stand on so she could reach a harness.
