Ukraine Mechanics Repair Russian Tanks For Use By Ukrainian Forces

Ukrainian mechanics are assisting in the war effort by fixing Russian tanks so that they might return to the battlefield to support Ukrainian soldiers.

Six mechanics were working out of a warehouse in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s easternmost city, which has been subjected to some of the most intense bombing since Russia invaded on February 24.

Damaged Russian tanks, munitions, and some Ukrainian vehicles were found inside the storage, all of which were being repaired or reconditioned for use by Ukrainian troops. According to the publication, efforts included looking for information in Russian equipment and recovering pieces from wrecked or burned-out tanks.

After weeks of shelling, Ukraine said on Saturday that Russian forces were retreating from Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city. Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine’s defense minister, said the country was ready for a new, long-term phase of the conflict.

Before the full-scale invasion, there were reports of citizens assisting in the battle effort. Volunteer citizens began preparing to fight in January, with active duty military and reservists giving them skills such as weapon handling and battle tactics.

Russia’s enormous tank force was viewed as one of the invasion’s most powerful weapons, but tanks have been slowed, halted, and destroyed. Although the precise number is uncertain (Ukraine claims to have destroyed over 1,000), at least 200 have perished. Meanwhile, Ukraine has lost at least 70 soldiers. Ukraine has reportedly seized up to 74 Russian tanks. The Russian military have been hampered by their own mobile phones, which have revealed their whereabouts.

While Russia’s armed forces exceed Ukraine’s, the latter has received significant equipment and armament upgrades since the conflict began. Troops are receiving training on new American-supplied Howitzers in Germany, while Ukraine continues to get Javelin anti-tank missiles, which have been widely utilized to kill or damage Russian tanks. Last month, the US awarded Ukraine with an extra $800 million in help.
