May Migrant Apprehensions Hit A Staggering High

According to a leaked Border Patrol report, authorities captured more than 220,000 migrants who unlawfully entered the United States through the southwest border in May. According to data dating back to the Clinton administration, this is a new high for apprehensions in May.

With the unofficial figure of over 220,000, the three-month total now stands at over 633,137. Agents detained more over 1.4 million migrants in eight months since the fiscal year began on October 1, 2021, according to the combined data.

According to news estimates, a record migrant caravan of 10,000 to 15,000 people departed southern Mexico on Monday for the United States. An estimated 9,500 people crossed the border between Guatemala and Mexico on their way to the United States, according to a group organizer. Migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela make up the majority of the group.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector, out of the nine southwest border sectors, continues to be the busiest. Approximately 45,000 migrants were arrested by these agents. More than 44,000 people have been captured in the Del Rio Sector. Another 67,000 migrants live in the El Paso and Yuma sectors.

Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens claimed that his agents caught approximately 4,000 of the sector’s 44,000 arrests in May over the Memorial Day weekend. He further stated that 1,600 other migrants escaped without being captured.

In reality, as almost two dozen migrants perished in the Del Rio Border Patrol in April, the southwest border with Mexico is everything from secure, orderly, and humanitarian. Migrants continue to pass at freely at Eagle Pass and the Rio Grande Valley, according to video reports. Other investigations detail the horrific and life-threatening conditions that exist in border people smuggling activities.
